ChatGPT to Claude: Transfer Your Memory in 5 Minutes
By the end, everything ChatGPT remembers about you will be saved in Claude's memory, so Claude knows your context from day one. The whole process takes about five minutes.
Was Sie brauchen
A Claude account (claude.ai)
A ChatGPT account that has memory turned on
About 5 minutes (longer if you have used ChatGPT for months or years)
Schritt für Schritt
Turn on memory in Claude
Open the Claude app. Click your profile in the bottom left corner, then Settings, then Capabilities. Under Memory, toggle both options on. If you already have a memory file, that's fine: the import adds to it.
Start the import and copy Claude's prompt
On the same page, find Import memory from other AI providers and click Start import. A window opens with a long prompt. Copy it. This prompt pulls your memories out of ChatGPT (or any other provider).
Check ChatGPT's memory settings
Open ChatGPT. Click your profile, then Personalization. Scroll to the bottom to Memory and make sure both options are toggled on. If they are off, the next steps will not work. You can also browse your saved memories here.
Paste the prompt into a new ChatGPT chat
Go back to the ChatGPT homepage and paste the prompt you copied from Claude. It asks ChatGPT to take everything it remembers about you and write it out in a format you can copy. Don't send it yet.
Pick thinking mode and the bigger model
Select thinking mode first. This makes it much more likely you get all your data rather than only slices of it. If your plan offers a choice of models, pick the bigger one.
Send the prompt and let it run
Send the prompt. It can take a few minutes if you have used ChatGPT for a long time (in the video it took 30 seconds to a minute). Long-time users may need to run the prompt two or three times to get everything out.
Paste the result into Claude
Copy everything ChatGPT gave you. Go back to Claude's import window, paste it, and click Add to Memory. Processing can take two to three minutes.
Check the migrated memory
Once it finishes, look at the new memory in Claude's Capabilities settings. It should reflect what ChatGPT knew about you. Repeat the same steps if you also want to bring in memory from Perplexity or Gemini.
Worauf Sie achten sollten
If memory is not toggled on in ChatGPT's Personalization settings, the extraction will not work.
Without thinking mode you may only get part of your memories, not all of them.
Your chat history does not transfer. Only what ChatGPT remembers about you moves to Claude, and your old conversations stay in ChatGPT.
Heavy ChatGPT users often don't get everything in one pass: run the prompt two or three times.
