Make Claude Code Work for Hours
You will start a long-running task in Claude Code with /goal. The task will have a precise objective, a clear exit condition and a stop rule, so it keeps working without constant questions and without draining your usage.
O que você precisa
Claude Code (terminal, extension or desktop app). /goal is not in Claude Cowork
A Claude plan: I recommend the $100 to $200 plan for this feature
A task that would normally take a long time, such as research, a CRM cleanup or reports
Passo a passo
Pick a task that needs /goal
Use /goal when Claude Code would otherwise keep stopping to ask you questions. It keeps working until the goal is met. Good fits: cleaning a CRM, market research, creating reports, or building an application end to end (one to four hours).
Open Claude Code and type /goal
Open Claude Code in the terminal, the extension or the desktop app. Type /goal. The prompt reads "Set a goal. It's going to work until the condition is met." All you give it is the goal.
Command/goal
Write a precise goal
Describe exactly what to go through, what to produce for each item and what the final answer should be. Here is my example, a YouTube research report that could take a couple of hours.
Example goalGo into my YouTube inspiration database, check every channel we're tracking, and for each one generate a report based on its latest 100 videos. Then tell me what we should start creating in terms of content.
Set a clear exit condition
Give it very precise instructions and a very precise exit condition. Without them, it can burn through tokens and money fast. Say clearly what "done" looks like before you send the goal.
Let it run
Send the goal and leave it. Claude Code starts browsing through everything it needs and reports back when it is done. For long tasks, expect to wait a long time for the result.
Start small, then scale up
Try a small goal first: check what is inside one of your Excel sheets, check your local files, arrange some files or create a report. Move up to bigger goals step by step so you learn where /goal hits its limits.
Add a stop rule
Claude Code has some built-in safety limits and may stop on its own. Still, add a rule to your goal that tells it when to give up and report back.
Stop ruleIf you don't manage to do this within twenty tries, you can simply stop and report back to me.
Fique atento a
A vague goal or a missing exit condition burns tokens and money very quickly.
Full app builds use a lot of tokens and usage. I only recommend /goal on the $100 to $200 Claude plan.
/goal only works in Claude Code, not in Claude Cowork.
It can stop without you asking because of built-in safety systems, so check back and restart with a smaller goal if needed.
