Claude Cowork Plugins Explained in 4 Minutes
Claude Cowork plugins are the fastest way to get real work out of Claude without building everything from scratch. In this quick walkthrough I explain what a plugin actually is, how to browse the marketplace, how to install one in a single click, and how to customize it for your company. We also cover the difference between official Anthropic plugins and partner plugins from editors like Wix, Exa, Base44, and Twilio.
What you need
- The Claude desktop application with access to the Cowork tab
1. Finding the Plugin Marketplace (0:09)
Head into the Claude desktop application and select the Cowork tab. From there the path is:
Cowork tab > Customize > Personal plugins > + > Browse
That brings you to the marketplace for plugins: the official plugins from Anthropic and other authorized vendors.
2. What's inside a plugin: prompts, skills and connectors (0:31)
A plugin is extremely simple. It is a combination of three main things, and the Marketing plugin is a good example to see all three.
First, the example prompts. These are the workflows contained within the plugin. For marketing you get things like optimized blog post drafting for SEO and planning a multi-channel campaign. Think of them as the use cases packaged inside the plugin.
Second, the skills. These are the reusable workflows that will actually be used to tackle those use cases.
Third, the connectors. When you work in marketing there is a suite of SaaS applications you need: Canva, Figma, HubSpot, and many others. The connectors are the ecosystem of applications the plugin hooks into.
3. Why plugins help you kickstart (1:44)
Plugins let you kickstart in a given area. If you know you will be doing marketing through Claude and you do not want to build all of the skills yourself, a plugin is a plug-and-play solution sitting at your disposal. The starting point is done for you; your job becomes shaping it.
4. Installing a plugin (2:02)
Installation is one click. On the plugin, click the plus symbol, and you are done. After I installed the Enterprise Search plugin, all of the skills inside it were immediately available to me.
5. Customizing plugins for your company (2:19)
Plugins kickstart you, but the real value comes from personalization. Once the skills are installed, ask Claude Cowork to work with you to customize them for your company. If you do marketing for a specific sector, tailor every skill to that sector. Generic skills get generic outputs; customized skills get outputs that sound like your business.
6. Anthropic plugins vs partner plugins (2:48)
There are two types of plugins. The first is everything created by Anthropic, the makers of Claude: sales, data, product management, legal, and more, which work fantastically well.
The second type is the partner plugins, created by the editors of the applications themselves. Wix, for example, ships a plugin that connects Claude to the Wix platform so you can take care of your websites directly from Claude.
7. Partner plugin examples: Exa, Base44, Twilio (3:26)
Scrolling through the partner list you will find Exa, a native search engine for AI. Base44, which lets you build any type of SaaS application. Twilio, if you ever need to do something regarding phones. And really, the sky is the limit.
One practical tip: if you know you use a particular SaaS more than others, go into Plugins and verify whether it has one. Notion does not have one at the moment, but Salesforce and Slack do. When your tool is covered, everything becomes plug and play.
8. Final tips (4:02)
Start small. Connect your Claude Cowork to a single plugin that matches the work you already do, then ask Claude to customize it for your needs. You will see that this drastically reduces the time you need to get real value out of Cowork. The pattern is always the same: install, personalize, then build on top.
Pitfalls and tips
- Do not stop at installation. An out-of-the-box plugin is a starting block; customizing it for your company and sector is where the results come from.
- Check the marketplace before assuming your tool is supported. Coverage differs, as the Notion versus Slack example shows.
