How to Actually Find Any Claude Skill
Claude Code and Claude Cowork can be extended with skills for almost any use case, and the hard part is not installing them, it is knowing where they live. In this quick walkthrough I show you how I ask Claude Code to search GitHub for highly rated skill repositories, what repositories and stars actually mean, and how to make Claude do all of the discovery work for you.
What you need
- Claude Code or Claude Cowork. I use Claude Code for this demo, but you can just use Cowork as well.
- Nothing else. You do not have to be a developer, and Claude handles GitHub for you.
1. Introduction (0:00)
The goal here is simple: get any skill you might need for Claude Cowork or Claude Code, without hunting through the internet yourself. We will make Claude the librarian and let it fetch the good stuff.
2. Claude Code or Claude Cowork (0:10)
For this demo I use Claude Code. Everything works the same way in Cowork, so pick whichever one you already have open. The request you send is identical.
3. Finding design skills (0:18)
As the example, we take design skills. The plan: ask Claude Code to go into GitHub and find the latest repositories that contain skills useful for design work. The same pattern will work for any other category later.
4. Why GitHub is the best place to search (0:22)
GitHub, you can pretty much think of as a huge Google Drive that contains a lot of information. Most skills are actually created by developers, so that is where you find all the good stuff. You do not have to be a developer to benefit from this. You only need to understand that GitHub is the place where a lot of crazy skills live.
5. The exact request to give Claude (0:55)
This is the exact request I send:
Hey Claude, can you please go onto GitHub and find, let's say, five repos that contain Claude Code skills or Claude Cowork skills for design that are extremely well-rated that I can install locally? Thanks.
Notice the three ingredients: where to search (GitHub), how many results (five repos), and the quality bar (extremely well-rated, installable locally).
6. Letting Claude do the heavy lifting (1:16)
Send it off and Claude does all the heavy lifting for us. It goes ahead one at a time and finds the information we need. It is also able to find and install all of the skills for us, so discovery and installation live in the same conversation. While it works, you do nothing: no browsing, no comparing tabs, no guessing which repository is trustworthy. I simply came back to it when it finished the search.
7. Reviewing the skill repositories (1:35)
When Claude comes back, it has been into GitHub and found the repositories, which are pretty much the Google Drives containing the skills we might need. Stars are pretty much the same as simply liking something, so they are your quality signal. One result contains two hundred and fifty thousand stars: Claude Code Superpowers, one of the most well-known repos for Claude Code. The official Anthropic skills also show up, along with plenty of others you can just find this way.
8. Finding skills for any use case (2:11)
The demo returns five repositories, but the workflow is not limited to design. Repeat the exact same request for marketing, sales, or just general productivity, and Claude will surface the well-rated repositories for that category too.
9. The dynamic workflow tip (2:27)
If you need a lot of skills rather than a handful, ask Claude Code to really dig deep using a dynamic workflow. That gets you all the skills you might need for any use case instead of a quick top-five.
10. Final takeaway (2:39)
It is literally as easy as that. Ask Claude Code to help you find the skills you need using precisely GitHub, use stars to judge quality, and scale up with a dynamic workflow when a short list is not enough.
Tips
- Use stars as your first quality filter: they work like likes, and a repository with hundreds of thousands of them, like Claude Code Superpowers, has earned its reputation.
- Say "that I can install locally" in your request, so Claude only returns skills you can actually set up on your machine.
- Ask for a dynamic workflow when you want breadth; the default request is tuned for a quick, high-quality shortlist.
