GPT 5.6 Drops Tomorrow: Everything We Know
By the end you will know what GPT 5.6 (Sol, Terra and Luna) is expected to bring, where it sits next to Fable 5, and how to test it yourself so you can decide which model does planning and which does execution.
O que você precisa
A ChatGPT account (openai.com) for GPT 5.6
Optional: Codex (chatgpt.com/codex) for agentic work
Optional: Claude (claude.ai) with Fable 5 to compare
Passo a passo
Know the three variants
GPT 5.6 ships as three variants of the same model: Sol is the flagship you will use most of the time, Terra is the middle ground, and Luna is the smallest. Pick Sol for your main tests.
Understand the early access backlash
The model went to US government parties one to two weeks before the public release, which caused backlash from general users. Some also said it is too agentic and follows instructions too narrowly. I do not see that as a real problem.
Expect stronger agentic coding
Early reports call it a big step up in agentic coding and computer use. In practice, it should handle long, complex tasks without losing track. Execution has been the GPT family's strength compared to Anthropic models.
Place it against Opus 4.8 and Fable 5
Users report it is clearly better than Opus 4.8 but not as good as Fable 5, so treat it as a middle ground. It does not look like a clear winner over Fable 5; the two seem to complement each other.
Check the UX and UI claim
GPT models have been weak at UX and UI design: poor dashboards and websites that are easy to recognize. Reports say this is fixed in 5.6. Test whether it now has better taste than the GPT 5.5 family.
Split the work between both models
For a short window you have both Fable 5 and GPT 5.6, and Fable 5 gives little usage even on $100 to $200 plans. Use Fable 5 as the orchestrator and designer (systems, architecture, UX, 3D), and GPT 5.6 as the executor for long-running tasks.
Use GPT 5.6 for business execution
Send GPT 5.6 and Codex your agentic work that needs little taste: admin tasks, execution, moving data from A to B, and checking that everything is correct. I see it as the better value for that kind of work.

Test it on its old weak spots
Try both models yourself. To know whether GPT 5.6 improved, test what the previous version was bad at: build several websites, dashboards and visual assets with it and compare the results with GPT 5.5.
Fique atento a
This video was recorded before launch and is based on early reports from X. Treat the claims as unconfirmed until you test the model yourself.
Some users say GPT 5.6 follows instructions too narrowly, so spell out exactly what you want.
Fable 5 gives very little usage even on $100 to $200 plans, so save it for planning and design instead of spending it on execution.
