Build Live Artifacts in Claude Cowork
Artifacts have been in Claude Chat for months, but they have a ceiling: they cannot pull information from your real tools, which makes them pretty things rather than useful ones. Live Artifacts in Claude Cowork remove that ceiling. In this walkthrough I build two live web applications side by side, an attention dashboard fed by my communication channels and a client-work dashboard powered by PostHog, each from a single guided prompt.
What you need
- Claude Cowork
- Your business tools connected to Cowork beforehand (email, calendar, Slack, your analytics, your AI note taker). The more you connect, the more Cowork knows what it can achieve.
1. Why normal Claude artifacts are limited (0:10)
The artifacts you get in Claude Chat are small web applications, but they cannot get information in real time from tools like Gmail, Outlook, Fireflies, or any AI note taker. No live data means they are not very useful for business use cases.
2. What Live Artifacts unlock (0:42)
With Live Artifacts, those same web applications refresh with everything happening around you, your business included. Live dashboards, live status pages, live client views, all fed by the tools you already use.
3. Build the attention dashboard (1:17)
For the first app I picked a ready-made use case: I clicked "What needs my attention". Cowork then asks a few setup questions about your communication channels so it can build a live web app summarizing everything happening across them. My answers:
What tools should the status page pull from? Email, Calendar, and Slack
What counts as needs attention? This week
How should it stay updated? Open in manual reload
Open in manual reload is the best way to build applications right now. And again: connect Cowork to all your tools beforehand so it knows what it has to work with.
4. Create a custom Live Artifact while the first one builds (2:38)
Builds take a while, and that is a feature: you can start several at once. While the attention dashboard was building, I went back and clicked New Artifact, then Create with Claude. Instead of a preset button, this triggers a conversation where Claude looks at everything connected to your workspace and helps you decide what to build. It asked me a few scoping questions:
What domain do you want this artifact to be in? Client work
How often will you open it? Multiple times a day
What should it show? Numbers and charts
5. Brainstorm the client-work dashboard (4:09)
From there, Claude brainstorms application ideas based on your connected tools. This step is completely optional; if you already know what you want, just ask for it straight up, no intermediary questions needed. Claude Code was quite chatty that day, so I narrowed it myself: a single hero client, powered by PostHog.
6. Configure the PostHog dashboard (4:42)
PostHog, for those who do not know it, is an analytics tool that captures everything visitors do on your website, down to which elements they clicked. I finished the setup with a few selections:
Scope: single client PostHog dashboard, multiple times a day
Track: traffic and engagement, experiments and feature flags, errors and health
Project: use my default PostHog project

7. The results (5:29)
When a Live Artifact finishes, its context window shows which connectors it is wired to; for the client dashboard, that is PostHog. The built artifacts sit in the pinned section, one click away. The PostHog dashboard came back as a full live analytics view (shown in demo mode, since I am not going to show real client data). The attention dashboard, Attention V2, shows every communication channel connected, which emails I need to reply to, which Slack DMs I need to get to, and how the rest of my week looks.
8. More Live Artifact ideas (6:29)
You can go very far with this. Connect image and video generation to an artifact, plus Slack and your AI note taker, and you can build a live artifact that takes your client meetings and generates visual assets for LinkedIn or Instagram posts through a connector to a service like Higgsfield. Any live application you have in mind becomes buildable, and you do not need to touch Claude Code if you are not a veteran user yet.
Pitfalls and tips
- Connect your tools first. A Live Artifact can only pull from what is already wired into Cowork.
- Prefer manual reload for now. It is the most reliable update mode for these applications today.
- Stack your builds. Artifacts take time to generate, so kick off several side by side instead of waiting on one.
- Skip the brainstorm when you know what you want. The guided questions are optional.
